What a wonderful reminder even in the face ...Bill,

What a wonderful reminder even in the face of such a tragic story. I hadn't heard the story before reading it here and it (and the rest of your post) brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for spreading this message. Little acts of kindness will be remembered forever.

Trish
www.robertssister.com
caregiving. family. advocacy.Trish Hughes Kreishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04995070221130924508noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8281034577370281762.post-2997952578747706072011-08-23T05:35:18.546-07:002011-08-23T05:35:18.546-07:00sometimes we just move thorough our lives without ...sometimes we just move thorough our lives without really thinking about our actions and the consequences. It always surprises me when an ex student of mine stops me in the street to thank me for something i had said or done that had really made an impact on them years earlier..or that it had changed their thinking...sometimes even changed their lives...sometimes I cannot even remember the student, never mind what it was I had said or done that was so important to them. For me I am trying to make more of an effort to "Be in the moment" and to try to be more aware of my words and my actions (both positive and negative)as we never really know how or when those words and actions will affect someone else...we only that that they do and they willFierce Over 50https://www.blogger.com/profile/02585084014559596719noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8281034577370281762.post-35571714971861208142011-08-23T05:26:13.340-07:002011-08-23T05:26:13.340-07:00This comment has been removed by the author.Fierce Over 50https://www.blogger.com/profile/02585084014559596719noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8281034577370281762.post-58879055548972881342011-08-21T14:51:37.685-07:002011-08-21T14:51:37.685-07:00This story really shocked me - caught me up short....This story really shocked me - caught me up short. I had not heard it. It's hard to move away from the horror of the story to appreciate what you are saying, which of course is true--it is so easy to see certain days or moments as "not counting" or not significant. We forget how each moment can hold a great deal. Great reminder.

Judy Stone-Goldman
The Reflective Writer
http://www.thereflectivewriter.con/blog/
Personal-Professional Balance Through WritingJudy, The Reflective Writerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12155041904319269319noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8281034577370281762.post-77370645483699212222011-08-21T10:49:38.961-07:002011-08-21T10:49:38.961-07:00What a tragic yet moving story Bill. So, I completely endorse what you say about "live every moment as if it might be our last". Those tears were for the very reason you describe --- the officer's small act of kindness that will be remembered forever.

While tragic, this story is an excellent reminder of the power of the smallest act of kindness --- & we all have that power.

I must agree with Duke's comment above but for different reasons.
